About Osteopathy
Osteopathy is a unique system of diagnosis and treatment, a patient-centred therapy that lays its main emphasis on the structural integrity of the body. It is a way of detecting and treating damaged parts of the body and, thus, alleviating pain in tissues such as muscles, ligaments, nerves and joints.
When the body is balanced and aligned, it will function efficiently with the minimum of wear, stress and energy, thereby reducing pain and disease. It is our aim, as osteopaths, to achieve such balance.
Osteopaths can typically treat the main cause for symptoms such as migraine, heartburn, asthma, IBS, constipation, dietary sensitivities, headache, backache, neckache, and even mental health aspects such as anxiety and depression – the list is long.

The Road to Recovery is Unique for Everyone
The initial detailed case history may include questions about emotional trauma. You are absolutely free to share only what you’re comfortable with, but the more I understand, the more precisely I can tailor your treatment.
You are also in control of the pace at which you would like to be treated—a firm approach will naturally take less time than a medium or soft approach.
Healing focuses on restoring ease to the body. To clarify, when I use the term “dis-ease,” I simply mean that your body is not at ease—this does not imply that you have a disease of any kind. Trauma can manifest through mental, emotional, or physical strain and stress, each impacting the body’s ability to heal.
Healing is Not Always Linear
Some areas of the body reset more easily than others, depending on the severity of an injury, the intensity of past traumas, or the number of accumulated compensations. As the body responds, you may experience temporary soreness (in the treated area or elsewhere), emotional shifts, or even exhaustion—this is part of the natural healing process.
Not all body parts heal at the same rate. Deeply ingrained injuries may take longer to resolve, and in rare cases, this may trigger a temporary inflammatory response, also known as a healing crisis. However, I want to emphasize that this type of reaction is very rare.
The Importance of Rest in Recovery
I do my best to minimize any discomfort, but rest is highly recommended to allow your body to fully integrate the changes. Sleep plays a vital role in resetting movement patterns, allowing your muscles to relearn their original function before injury or adaptation altered them.
Cranial osteopathy
Cranial osteopathy is a refined and subtle type of osteopathic treatment, using very gentle manipulative pressure to encourage the release of stresses throughout the body, including the head.
At the time of its discovery, it was thought only to work on the head/cranium, hence its name. Due to its gentleness, this type of treatment is suitable for everyone from newborn babies to the very elderly.
Osteopathy for Babies
The body of a little one goes through an enormous transition to life in the outside world. This can result in minor, or even major, disruptive issues, such as digestion problems, colic, positioning of joints or trouble with head turning.
Osteopathy is an excellent, natural tool to get your young ones on the road to good health and prevent them from, potentially, having problems later on, which could result in numerous painful, not to mention costly, treatments.
Karl is specially trained to treat even the youngest of infants.
If your child is under two years of age, they will need an Infant Osteopathy appointment.
